Top Wikipedia Searches of 2024: U.S. Politics, Pop Culture, and Global Events Dominate

The Wikimedia Foundation has released its annual list of the most-visited Wikipedia pages of 2024, showcasing the global interests that captivated users this year. With over 76 billion views of English-language Wikipedia globally, the most-viewed page was “Deaths in 2024,” which saw over 44 million views.

U.S. politics and pop culture dominated the top searches. Vice President Kamala Harris and the 2024 U.S. presidential election were second and third on the list, while former President Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance also ranked highly. The page on the “2020 United States presidential election” rose to 13th place as views surged in November.

Pop culture topics also garnered significant attention. The Menendez brothers, Lyle and Erik, received over 26 million views after renewed interest sparked by a Netflix documentary. The “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Dune: Part Two” movies also made the top 10.

Taylor Swift ranked 11th despite a slight drop from 2023, and Sean “Diddy” Combs entered the top 25 amidst legal troubles. The tragic death of One Direction’s Liam Payne prompted over 12 million views of his Wikipedia page.

Indian politics also made a notable impact. The Indian Premier League, with over 24.5 million views, and the 2024 Indian general election, which saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election, were among the top searches. Bollywood films like Kalki 2898 AD also made the list, reflecting India’s growing influence on global online trends.

The top 25 list included other global sporting events, such as the 2024 Summer Olympics and UEFA Euro 2024, along with personalities like Elon Musk and Cristiano Ronaldo.
